June 5, 2008 – Canadian pilot Cory Cacciavillani had an excellent outing this past weekend at the second round of the Brian Stewart Racing Karting Championship event held at Point Pelee Karting in Leamington, Ontario. The talented junior pilot took home three podium results in the three classes he entered and proved that he can battle with Ontario karting’s top drivers.
Cacciavillani qualified his Rotax powered First Kart to a second row starting position as he claimed the fourth position. Missing the pole by less than two tenths of a second, Cory was determined to make up ground through the prefinal race and final to have a shot at the victory. The front of the field remained static for the prefinal race as Cory crossed the stripe in fourth.
An excellent feature race start saw Cacciavillani advance to P2 by the end of the first lap but he was quickly demoted to the fifth position by some aggressive driving from his fellow competitors by the end of lap four. Regaining his composure, Cacciavillani started his march forward as he quickly moved into the top three. A bold move to try and take P2 away was denied on the final few circuits and the CFRacing.ca driver had to settle for the third and final podium position.
Qualifying in the Junior Medium division was a little better for the Windsor, Ontario resident as again he was less than two tenths off the pole but this time would line up outside the front row and provide a better shot at the victory. At the drop of the green flag, a battle for the lead would ensue as Cory and the pole sitter swapped the lead lap after lap. Taking the point for good on the seventh circuit, Cory defended his position and drove to the prefinal victory and more importantly the pole position for the all important final.
The start of the feature race did not go as planned for the 13-year-old as a rough start knocked him back to the sixth position. Cory put his head down and again was able to pick off kart after kart as he began his march forward as he and a fellow competitor worked together drafting by several lead karts. On lap 18, Cacciavillani took over the second position but ran out of laps before he could make a move on the eventual winner.
The Junior Heavy qualifying provided Cacciavillani with a familiar outside row starting position as he would line up in P4. Falling back to sixth on the start, Cory would eventually move back into the top five and claim a fifth place prefinal result. An uneventful final saw Cory work his way up to fourth at the start of the event and by the time the checkers flew, he had advanced one more position to finish P3 and claim his third podium result of the weekend.
Cory’s next on track action will be this weekend at the third round of the Sunparlour Kart Club at Point Pelee Karting.
Cory would like to thank his current sponsors and supporters for a successful 2008 season to date: CF Group, CFRacing.ca as well as his friends and family.
