Cory Cacciavillani scored three top-ten finishes this past weekend at the third round of the Brian Stewart Racing Karting Championship at Kawartha Speedway. The Canadian pilot had an excellent weekend competing in three classes and against some of the top junior drivers in Ontario.
On Saturday, Cacciavillani qualified his First Kart/Rotax in the ninth position, with a time of 37.788 seconds. With a mid-pack starting position, Cory was determined to make up ground in the prefinal and final races. The talented driver did just that, claiming the fifth spot in the prefinal, and bettering himself to fourth in the final.
Cacciavillani rounded out a busy Saturday by also competing in the competitive Junior Medium class. The Windsor resident qualified his Honda powered machine in once again in the ninth position. On the start of the prefinal, Cory was punted all the way back to 17th place. Putting his head down and never giving up, Cory was able to pass four fellow competitors and finish 13th in the prefinal. Even more determination saw Cory able to finish the final in an impressive seventh position in the final.
During Sunday racing action, Cacciavillani was set for competition in the ultra-competitive Junior Heavy class. With a field of 26 drivers, Cory was able to qualify in the sixth position, a mere 0.274 seconds off the pole position. A loss of one position saw Cory capture seventh place in the prefinal. In the final, Cory was unable to make up any ground against the talent-laden competition, however was able to score his third top-ten position of the weekend.
Look for Cory at the next round of the Brian Stewart Racing Karting Championship, July 30th – August 3rd at Shannonville Motorsports Park.
Cory has also competed in two recent events with Sunparlor Kart Club at Point Pelee Karting. On June 8th, Cory competed in two classes – Junior Heavy and Rotax Junior. Utilizing a draw system, the Canadian pilot finished his first heat in third for the Junior Heavy class. After a field invert, Cacciavillani was able to score the second heat win along with the win in the finale. In Junior Rotax, Cory finished a solid second in both heats, and topped that with his second win of the day.
On June 29th, Cory was looking to show off his talent again in the two classes. In Junior Heavy, the CFracing.ca pilot scored a first and second in his heat races. In fine fashion, Cory scored his second consecutive victory at Point Pelee. In Rotax Junior, Cory finished second and third in the heats, but when all was said and done, wound up crossing the stripe still on the podium in third.
