Cory Cacciavillani starts the year off with a bang!

The 2008 Ontario karting season officially kicked off this past weekend with many clubs having their first race of the year. Back from a strong showing at the Florida Winter Tour, Cory Cacciavillani attended the first point’s race for the Sunparlor Kart Club (SPKC), held in at Point Pelee Karting, in Leamington Ontario. Racing in both the Jr heavy and Jr Rotax classes, Cory showed that he has kept in form over the long off-season.

In the Jr. Heavy class, Cory was the man to beat. From the beginning of the first practice, Cory was chased by his competitors. With a high number draw Cory started the first heat from the rear. A quick start vaulted him to mid pack by the end of the first lap. From there Cory chased down each driver in front of him, passing each of them. He went on to win the first heat. From the front, Cory easily took the second heat which set him on the Pole for the final. In the final, Cory battled with Kyle Dame for the lead early but drove a stellar race to take his first win of the year.

Aboard his new First Kart chassis, Cory also raced in the Jr Rotax class. Although there was a small field it was full of talent. Splitting the first two heats, Cory and Joshua Gilbert displayed that the two will be strong threats for the Championship. Cory started the final on the outside of the front row and great start vaulted him to the lead after the first lap. Cory and Josh swapped the lead for the first few laps; however Cory finished the race in a strong second place. CF Racing will be back on Sunday May 5 for race number two of the SPKC championship.
